I am very disappointed in this TINY book.....The description didn't make it clear that this is all prose and nothing more. It is a very small format and there are NO paintings.... Too much money for 96 tiny pages with none of his paintings. I will return it.

In what was a great disappointment, I discovered that the 2013 Unicorn Press re-print of this excellent book does *not* include the plates of Churchill's paintings. All of the used editions I've seen include those plates in color.

Other people have commented on the lack of plates, it's true, sadly they didn't include them, it would have been a terrific book with that. That aside, the way Churchill waxes on the hidden benefits that come from painting, especially in oils, makes for a very inspiring read. He started at age 40, a late bloomer he admits. I was intrigued by all the things he was able to see that came from creating art. I won't spoil things by revealing his insights in his short easy to read book, but it has a very inspiring effect and will make you want to go pick up a brush or pencil, and without being timid in doing so..I will re-read this book again when I am needing encouragement, such positive thoughts are in it, he makes very good points!

I watched an interview with former President George W. Bush saying how this essay made him realize he wanted to paint. As an illustrator my whole life, I hadn’t considered painting until recently. I read this book and it inspired me much as it did the former president! I loved it. It was an easy read as it’s more of an essay than a book and it was shipped to me quickly which I loved.

This is the edition which is illustrated with images of Churchill's paintings. its a small book filled with inspiration for the beginning painter and its a keeper in my art library. I'm a late bloomer in the field of visual representational art as was Churchill and its delight full to find that he also began painting to express creativity and to be in the moment. For him to escape the cares of government, for me, to transcend an ordinary life.

The amazon description did not make it clear this book is text only. There are no photos of Churchills paintings in this book. Total disappointment when I discovered that fact after receiving the book. I am really irked at Amazon for not making this clear before I pushed the order button

In this little volume, just a few thousands words, Churchill makes his case for why one should take up painting as a pastime or hobby. Mainly, he say, it helps you to see better, to see, for example, that a tree is not green, but a hundred or a thousand shades of green and other colors. In Churchill's case, he started painting in oils in his 40s and then became more serious about it after his retirement, or semi-retirement, from public life.Did Churchill convince me to try it. I'm not sure. I'm thinking about it, though.

This is such a fascinating book. I picked up a copy at a lending library and was amazed to learn that Churchill had taken up painting as a hobby and that it became one of the main passions of his life. Painting changed the way he looked at things - nature and art. It gave him absolute joy as he increased his ability to capture light and images. I wanted to share the book with one of my friends so I ordered this copy and was very pleased that it was a good price, in good condition including having the 18 colour plates and it arrived within days. I highly recommend this marvelous true story.

Well 3 1/2 stars - Rollins as leader and sideman - No ballads. The omission of There Are Such Things is glaring. I got the opening chorus personally transcribed awhile back. It's was a challenge but playable for intermediates. With so many uptempo solos to choose from, Advanced players should go directly to his best, I Want to be Happy from his recording with Monk. If you hear 2 notes instead of 3 on the I Want opening phrases you are not alone. Most songs have melodies and solos but Sonny didn't play the melody of All The Things You Are, just the changes, at the Village Vanguard. The source album is given on the heading of each song. See the second small image for the complete song list. I'll Remember April is the version with Clifford Brown and Max Roach as is What Is This Thing Called Love. Strode Rode is the Saxophone Colosus version. 50 tunes from about 22 albums. Not all albums that he made during this period are represented, Way Out West and a few others were by passed.

This is really an excellent book of transcriptions of great Sonny Rollins solos from the 50s. But what sets this book of transcriptions apart from most others is that the articulation is notated great detail. The transcriber Chris "Doc" Stewart has done extensive transcriptions of Cannonball Adderley also with the detailed articulation.This is a great resource for learning jazz articulation. Highly recommended.

Doc Stewart did a outstanding job with this Sonny Rollins Transcription book. If you love Sonny Rollins playing, this book will give you many years of joy. Again Great job Doc!!!

As a male reader who typically reads Clancy, Thor, Flynn, etc., this was my first "romance" book. I am a voracious reader (knocked out Deathly Hallows in one sitting), so I took a chance on one of my wife's books. Didn't like the historical romance 1500/1600s. However this book was the first romance book I had ever liked and really like the great writing, and excellent story line. Since then I have read over 1000 titles, and still rank this as the gold standard to compare all other romance books (Roberts, Carr, Sparks, Macomber, etc.). I hope that this series makes it to the big screen. I would suffer through $20 bucket of popcorn to see it.

This story has been done before in many different ways. Here we have a wealthy man (Jack) who wants to find a woman who doesn't want him for his money. Then we have a struggling single mother (Jessie) who is a waitress at Denny's and wants a man with money.Far fetched? Of course, but cute none-the-less. Jack is a likeable down-to-earth guy and Jessie has more walls up than a castle. Their interactions make the book worth reading. The genuine honesty in both characters is sweet. It's a clean love story, albeit unbelievable.For $1.99 its worth reading.

I first read the reviews, but then I bought the book anyway because I'd already read #5 in the series (by mistake, but oh well) and I like Bybee's writing and story and character development. I read this book and loved it so much, I started at the beginning and read it all over again! With the same feelings I had before. I think I'm in love with Jack!!! Yeah, he lied to Jessie but he had lots of reasons to. When an author puts together a story, it has to have logic behind the psychology of the characters' makeup. Bybee's characters make perfect sense to me. I read romance for the HEAs, honestly. Life is hard enough because there are very few HEAs in anyone's life, and many times there are none. So I buy romance novels, I attempt writing them (I have 2 complete drafts and still working on them, learning from good romance authors still), and I've never had so much fun in my life. Catherine Bybee is my newest on my list of favorite romance authors - Kristen Ashley, Toni Anderson, Tamra Baumann, Julia Gabriel. They have all lightened my life and I am 100% grateful to all of them. <3 yeah that's a heart

This is my first time at reading the writings of Ms Catherine Bybee. Very well written sweet romance story. I loved the main characters Jessie and Jack. One minute it had me laughing the next upset even letting a couple of tears roll down my cheeks. Reading about or watching people fall in love has always warmed my heart. For real love is the best feeling of all no matter your age, who, or what you love!! Its the greatest feeling ever!! Great book and wonderful characters.

Jessie is a single mom, working the graveyard shift at Denny’s to make ends meet. She is still struggling. Jack is a millionaire, pretending to be a normal guy working as a waiter. Jessie wants the stability of a wealthy man, while Jack wants a woman who is not after his money.The story is very predictable and easy, as in there’s not any twists except the ones you see coming from the start. I found Jessie to be a little whiny and not relatable, but I did like Jake and the amazing way he connected with Danny. (Btw she works at Denny’s and have a son called Danny 😬)But as soon as she got a ring on her finger, they are planning a wedding, moving to another state and for Jack to adopt Danny. A little too quickly, they hadn’t known each other for that long, Jessie’s walls sure crumbled fast! So if you just want some light reading this is a book for you.

I bought this because I've seen this series dominate the Kindle Top 100 for longer than I can recall and thought I'd see why. Sometimes when I grab from the Top 100 I'm disappointed, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and if the rest in the series are this good I completely understand the popularity. The hero is filthy rich and wants a woman to love him for himself. The heroine is a single mother who has been burned before and wants a man who is financially well off, which I didn't like at first because it made her seem incredibly shallow, but further reading reveals she's really not shallow at all. The hero pretends to work at the hotel his family actually owns and builds a relationship with her, slowly working his way into her (and her son's) heart while keeping his true identity secret. Similar to the Prince/Princess In Disguise tropes.

Awesome telling of the development of a lasting romance. Great characters, although The snap of the heroine proved a bit beyond belief. The author fully committed to the storyline resulting in a refreshing true romance novel. My only criticism is that authors consistently throw in sensuality as if romance is not complete without it. Fortunately, this author limits graphic descriptions to two scenes. - totally unnecessary to the story. The scenes don't result in a deal-breaker, but it cost a 5-star rating.

Robert Rubin provides invaluable insights into the workings of the Treasury and the White House. Recollections of the conversations that he had with Alan Greenspan and Larry Summers are particularly revealing. Here are a series of quotes that every financial official or every central banker should use as a reference:- On central bank independence: "As the longest-serving Federal Reserve chairman in history, William McChesney Martin, famously said, the Fed chairman is the fellow who takes the punch bowl away just when the party is getting going. That's why the chairman should have a fixed term, which he does, rather than serving at the pleasure of the President. This helps insulate him from political pressure."- On democratic accountability and the mastery with which Alan Greenspan testified before Congress: "That's an interesting observation you make, Senator, about the earth being flat," Alan would say. "If I might, let me rephrase the question." Alan would then ask himself a completely different question and answer it with such complexity and finely calibrated nuance that the questioner faced a choice between nodding intelligently and acknowledging his own confusion. Alan would then ask the House member or senator, "Does that respond to your question?" And the interrogator would invariably say, "Yes, it does."- On exchange rate policy: "My substantive view was that economic fundamentals determine exchange rate levels over time, and that we should focus our attention on strengthening U.S. economic policy and performance, not on influencing the level of the currency (...) I was skeptical about the efficacy of currency 'interventions' per se--that is, of governments trying to influence the exchange rate of a currency by buying and selling large quantities in the open market. My experience with foreign exchange markets at Goldman Sachs led me to believe that trading flows were simply too vast for such interventions to have more than a momentary effect, except in very unusual circumstances."- On using calculated ambiguity when commenting on market trends: "For example, my saying 'A strong dollar is in our national interest, and we have a strong dollar for some time now' created great excitement at a press briefing, as it was construed to mean that we wouldn't mind seeing the dollar remain strong but soften somewhat."- On financial innovation and systemic risk: "Larry Summers characterized my concerns about derivatives as a preference for playing tennis with wooden rackets--as opposed to the more powerful graphite and titanium ones used today. Perhaps, but I would still reduce the leverage allowed on derivatives substantially."

Rubin has the most humble and sincere narrative. As an introvert myself, I immensely resonate with a lot of his view points and decisions. The first three chapters of this book offer a lot of genuine advice to intellectually driven yet professionally aspiring people. However, while that kind of narrative is refreshing for the first 100 pages, it gets tiring as one reads on. After all, most people buy this book to gain insights of what happened in the boom and bust of the 90s to 00s, not a prolonged self-analysis on strengths and weaknesses. I actually could not finish the book, as it drags on and on about who did this and who said that, but it always misses the key points of the stories. I think this book should not be read as a history recount, but an unrefined diary that still considers Rubin as the only reader.

As someone who's had the chance to walk through the storied trading floors of the arbitrage division of Goldman Sachs in Manhattan, I was excited to read this book about someone who began his amazing career there. Anyone interested in investing, domestic and international finance and economics, and politics should read this book. Why?Mr. Rubin was vital in the formation of Clintonomics--a set of policies that stressed the importance of deficit reduction. Although politically vilified for "raising taxes," Mr. Rubin's platform of deficit reduction was associated with remarkable productivity and economic growth in the 1990's. Mr. Rubin's account is especially timely and thought provoking considering the recent deficits incurred by the U.S. government, the historically low interest rates that are nevertheless present in America, and the 12 billion dollar bet on foreigns currencies recently placed by Berkshire Hathaway.As someone who has visited and invested (with very mixed results!) in developing countries, I was also interested in Mr. Rubin's accounts of how and why he, Clinton, and others at institutions like the IMF created multi-billion dollar rescue loans to these nations. The conflicts of interest between investors, the borrowers, and the loaners is fascinating to contemplate. It is also instructive to consider why some rescue packages (designed for Indonesia) failed while others (designed for Mexico) succeeded. While recounting these stories Mr. Rubin does an admirable job explaining why lowering tarrifs and expanding global trade with emerging markets is a win-win situation for all parties involved.For an even better explanation of the underlying principles of international finance read "Economics in One Easy Lesson" by Hazlett. It sounds like a children's book, but the clarity of explanation of complex ideas in this book is amazing.

Bestseller Crichton (Jurassic Park) once again focuses on genetic engineering in his cerebral new thriller, though the science involved is a lot less far-fetched than creating dinosaurs from DNA. In an ambitious effort to show what's wrong with the U.S.'s current handling of gene patents and with the laws governing human tissues, the author interweaves many plot strands, one involving a California researcher, Henry Kendall, who has mixed human and chimp DNA while working at NIH. Kendall produces an intelligent hybrid whom he rescues from the government and tries to pass off as a fully human child. Some readers may be disappointed by the relative lack of action, the lame attempts to lighten the mood with humor (especially centering on an unusually bright parrot named Gerard), and the contrived convergence of the main characters toward the end. I suspect that many readers don't get that he's writing this as satire and comedy, expecting his more serious dry style of previous books. The audio version is great because the actor adds so much to it with his characterizations of the various people and their reactions. The tone is tongue in cheek and parts are hilarious. There are a few missteps, such as the dead end plot line of the glowing animals used for advertising. There were even a few grammatical errors that made it past the editor, and some of the plots were farfetched (trying to arrest someone to grab their tissues because you own the rights to it)But it brings up interesting topics and tosses in some education. The story had me eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

This was my sixth Crichton novel, after (in order) Micro, Congo, Prey, Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World. Next ranks in the top three, along with Micro (2nd) and Prey (an easy 1st).Bear in mind, this book is seriously unlike the others. If you are looking for a straight forward plot, you will not like this book. Crichton takes several story lines, some important and some not, and weaves them all together (expertly, I might add), detailing genetic progresses, problems, and possibilities, all while building to an expertly constructed finale. As such, the story takes time, and doesn't really take off until at least 1/3rd into the book, although I'd argue it's really more like 60% in that it catches fire.If you can get through about half (which is not bad, just exhausting - names are plentiful and difficult to remember) you're set, because the rest of the book is dynamite, and the ending is so well done I found myself really in disbelief.I might re-read it, just now that the story has been made clearer and so I can focus on the genetic aspect, but this is one of those books that is best the first time around, when you don't know how it will come together.This is not even to get into how well this is researched. The genetic knowledge Crichton supplies is incredible.Without a doubt, a must read.

A gripping SEMI-SciFy novel that tweaks the reader at many levels and keeps the action—largely cerebral rather than bloody—going. I like Crichton. The short chapter style is a little choppy, and the pseudo-news clips a little tiresome (but perhaps necessary to clarify the science for lay readers). The author interview and essay at the end of the Kindle edition are not entertaining, but thought provoking and important, especially the essay (reprinted from his 2006 NY TIMES op-ed piece). I hope the cautions he recommends have been implemented by the time of this 2019 review.

This is the best of Crichton and the worse of Crichton. Ever since the ANDROMEDA STRAIN, this is the writer that rides not just the zeitgeist wave but the very edge of biomedical breakthroughs - and makes great novels on the issues they raise. The SPHERE, CONGO, JURASSIC PARK are all excellent biothrillers. In NEXT he seems to have managed the first but neglected the later.This is collection of loosely related stories, all linked in some way or the other to either transgenic organisms or gene patenting; and all dosed under the light of the human science...being, well, all too human. Family obligations, personal choices, ambition, shortsightedness and pure greed bear much more influence on the outcome of the scientific process than most scientists will ever admit. I should know, I am a NeuroBiologist myself...I found NEXT to be quite interesting, and eagerly followed some of the story-lines in the early morning hours. Yet, at the same time, there was no backbone to the story other than the cautionary message. This made the novel, at first to give the feeling of never-actually-taking-off, only to finally turn into an informative episodic collection of characters I hardly cared for.This is, at most, a 3½ stars novel. I rounded it up (rather than down) because of the great books Crichton has given us in the past. My advise to Michael Crichton would be "no writer is big enough to totally ignore his editors".

In this novel MC continues to warn us about the risks of new technology, that he began exploring with Andromeda Strain and reached a peak with Jurassic Park (the book not the movie). In "Next" MC continues the explicit "academic paper" style he started with "State of Fear". "Next" contains a detailed bibliography, including website addresses, and an aftermath with his opinion about the issues raised by genetic engineering. The most valuable part of the book are the legal, scientific, ethical, moral and religious issues raised throughout the novel. Probably a non-fiction book would have been a better instrument to deliver his message, or at least, he should have tried harder to make this book a real novel. This is what it shares with "State of Fear". As a novel, this is one of MCs weakest, we really miss the good old style of Andromeda Strain, Congo, Sphere, and Jurassic Park. As other readers noted, too many caracters, too much going back and forth, and some of the plot is too exagerated (specially regarding the monkey boy and the talking parrot that by coincidence end up together). After all, I recommend reading the book, genetic engineering is a technology that in the long-term will affect our lifes and that of our grandchildren. MC shows with clarity all the nonsense that is going on right now, as he did in "State of Fear" regarding global warning, conveniently exaggerated by the media. I fully agree with his point of view regarding the absurdity of pattenting genes, the dangerous relationships between universities and private firms, and the overstataments being made about short-term results.

Adorable kittens with matching tea cups. Easy to color, I love using nice bright gel pens & markers. Have also used color pencils.

 I really like the designs in this book. The artist, Kayomi Harai is new to me but I will certainly be looking for her books after purchasing the two that are now available. The kittens in the book are designed in what seems to be a hybrid of line drawing and grayscale as much of the cat fur details are done in shades of gray. The kittens are adorable and range from those in teacups to fairy kittens, a kitten in bath and many other cute poses.In my first project, I used gray marker which almost completely obscured the shading so I will be careful with my use of gray in the future and use darker colors on the shading prior to using an all-over color to begin with.My only issue with the book has to do with the publishing. Designs Originals has, this year, begun “shrinking” a number of the designs to include coloring information on the design page. It's been disappointing to me as it renders to the designs harder to color by making the details too small. In this book, ten of the designs are reduced. I like the coloring information but think it could be limited to the colored sample pages or to a page of its own rather than reducing the coloring pages. Because of this issue, I dropped my rating a star from a five to a four.Apart from that, I am really enjoying the book. With these particular designs, shrinking has made the designs a bit more difficult to color but, thankfully, it has not made them intricate or too tiny to deal with. There are many pages, at the front of the book, with coloring hints and colored samples of designs as well.This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring mediums.32 Kitten designs – 22 full size and 10 reduced size designsDesigns are printed on one side of the page with cute quotes and journal lines on the back of the page.Paper is medium weight, white, slightly rough and perforated. It is also noted as acid-free archival quality.Glue BindingDesigns stop before the perforationsAlcohol and water-based markers bleed through the pageGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on the back of the page. India ink pens can spot through as well depending on how heavily they are applied.Colored pencils work well with the paper. Both oil and wax based pencils provide good color, layer the same or multiple colors well, and blend easily using a blending stick. Hard lead pencils can dent through the page.I like to use a blotter page below my working page to keep seeping ink and dents from marring the pages below. I use card stock but two sheets of heavyweight paper work well, too. You can also simply remove pages before coloring to keep the rest of the book in good condition as well.

I love the cute kittens in this coloring book. So adorable! Who can resist the beautiful eyes? I have many books to color, but this one is my favorite. I followed the author's instructions on coloring the eyes which was a big help. The first two I colored with Prismacolor Premier and Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils and the last one with Copic Sketch markers. I copied that one on Hammermill Color Copy Digital Cover 100lb paper. I ordered it from Amazon after I saw it on a coloring YouTube video that this one is identical to the Copic X-Press Blending Card. It says it's for copy machines and laser printers, but it works fine in my Canon inkjet printer.Highly recommend this book! I'll order her Christmas one in December.

Absolutely adorable.... What a beautiful book... it also teaches some techniques on blending... and has a color wheel and color guides for some of the pics... the color guides for those pages are perforated so you can take them out and use those color schemes with other pictures... I can't say enough about how beautiful this book is... The paper is great my pencils color goes on the page very nice... BEAUTIFUL !!! I have one for my mother as well we are just learning and this book was perfect for her and me...

this book has some of the cutest kitten pictures I have seen. If you have a fondness for cats or kittens you will love this one.Pictures are one sided, with a cute little verse on the back. THe beginning of the book gives ideas of how to color your kitty, or make up your own.It also has hints on coloring the eyes etc. I made a few copies for my SR Citizens coloring group to color for Valentines day and was amazed that all six of us did them different. we're a group of ladies between 70 and 90 who really enjoy coloring. The book is made of heavy paper, and the pages are perforated for easy removal if you wan to frame them.

THIS BOOK HAS THE CUTEST KITTEN PICTURES TO COLOR!!!!! THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES EVEN THOSE WHO ARE KIDS AT HEART. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND THIS KEEPER.

Pictures are very cute i just don't like the extra at the bottom of some of the pages that spoiles the book but they are cute pictures to color and look so nice when done i would buy again
