Clear translation accompanied by a very nice design

This book was kindly sent to me in exchange of an honest review.I am not a big reader of poetry, so keep that in mind when reading my review. I want to delve more into this part of the literature. I read some contemporary poetry which I really liked and I was delighted when I was offered the chance to read some older poems that are not the usual European ones I am used to.What I liked the most about this collection was the design of it. The layout of the pages and how well the words worked with the illustrations. I was also surprised by how contemporary the poems felt even though they were written hundreds of year ago. The technology and society might have evolved, but deep inside we are the same.Personally I did not resonate with all the themes presented in this collection. I also feel like some poems were too long or too repetitive, although that might have been the intention. Yet some words were extremely beautiful and I would definitely seek more of Rumi's poetry to enjoy from time to time.

Rumi was a 13th-century Persian, Sunni Muslim, poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic. His influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions: Iranians, Tajiks, Turks, Greeks, Pashtuns, other Central Asian Muslims, and the Muslims of South Asia have greatly appreciated his spiritual legacy for the past seven centuries. He also has the title of the best selling poet in America.Rumi was a believer in music and dancing to help open the mind to create and for getting closer to God. God is liberally used in the poetry and the Prophet is also mentioned a few times. What is interesting though is that God used in the poetry is all encompassing and welcoming spirit. Perhaps closer to Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" than any dogmatic religion. The use of wine is also something that is not frowned upon. Rumi seems like a mix of the Beats and the Hippies but in a much more idealized way. Book Review:I bought this book, even though it is a past edition, and so far it is doing well. It doesn't have a lot of the tables and graphs as a newer edition of Dana's Manual but it still has a lot of the same quality of information. After all not much has changed in the world of Mineralogy. It wasn't as big as a normal textbook so it takes up less room in my bag.Seller Review:The book was in slightly better condition than was advertised, and it is a very good book. The only slight problem I had was the shipping length, but that was more of the carrier's fault than the seller. Seller shipped book on the next business day. I paid for expedite shipping and assumed it was 2-3 business days, and it was 5 business days. Normally I wouldn't care, but when you are trying to study for an exam everyday matters. So shelling out an extra $7 dollars and expecting it in 3 days, but nor receiving it until 5 days will get you a little irked.

came in perfect condition. book itself is tough to get through and may contain a few inconsistencies but still gets the job done...in other words, if you need this book for a class in mineralogy or something similar, it will teach you what you need to know. any substantial confusion is from a lack of explanation due to not having a face to face interaction-- the text will mention how it is easier to conceptualize with the help of a wooden model of some sort. i find the mineral identification charts in the back extremely helpful and necessary. the "cd-rom" is a little outdated and doesn't cover all subjects i'd like it to.

I bought this book as a Christmas present for my 12 year old nephew who lives with me. He LOVES mineralogy and already has several books on the subject. He immediately began devouring this book, following me around telling me all the 'interesting' things he's learning. (I don't really mind, it is nice to see him enthusiastic about something other than a video game.) The book might be considered a 'Mineralogy 101' and has been a very good textbook to introduce the science to my budding mineralogist. Not really having the same interest, I wouldn't be able to tell you if the book would be a good reference for someone already familiar with mineralogy. The things my nephew likes best is it filled in gaps of his knowledge of crystalline structures & how they form & how the formations affect what you do with them (faceting). The discussions on mining techniques also caught his interest. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and so is my nephew.

Into the 5th week of Mineralogy class, this book *then* became extremely informative - this is not a self-instructional manual, and I do not believe it was intended to be so. Most students will find the writing style in this text a bit intellectually heady, having been written by a distinguished Harvard PhD professor. It could have been written more concisely, perhaps more simplisticly, but all the information is there, and from what I understand, past editions were more comprehensive than this 22nd edition. I personally love this text, and only *after* an introduction to the subject will this text make real sense to the reader. And yes, I agree with the previous posts regarding certain statements about crystal structures that require some sort of base level knowledge of chemistry or physics or math (i.e. symmetry concepts) in order to fully comprehend a particular passage, but that's what you get from an Ivy League PhD-er! I believe this text was designed for the third year student who should already have taken 1 semester each of at least chemistry and calculus. Although calculus isn't necessary for the class, it presupposes that you know and understand some basic conceptual geometry.I would suggest reading some basic introduction to mineralogy websites before tackling this book. Also, I have found that for the conscientious mineralogy students who possess a "more refined" reading level and who are putting genuine effort into the class, this book is a valuable edition. Other texts simply do not cover as much material as found here, such as x-ray diffraction and optics. Overall meant for students and not the self-taught, although that depends on the individual, but in general I would not recommend this for the beginner who wants to learn on his/her own. Still, a great text. Try getting some olders editions with less sub-subjects edited out for a real comprehensive text!

I bought this textbook for a Mineralogy course at a university. I was told the 22nd edition would suffice since I could not afford the 23rd edition. For those of you who are in the same boat and trying to cut corners, dont buy this book! I am not commenting on the quality of the book at all, I'm sure it is an excellent textbook. I am just warning those who expect to follow along in a class using the next edition. Its not just a matter of different page numbers or chapters, there is whole chapters missing. If you need the 23rd edition and are in a pinch, rent it from [...]

On the USS Beacon, we had a gunner's mate that Wayne Stinnet might have found a fit rival for swapping lies. I called the man Seattle McFall due to one of his funnier tales. Unlike Stinnett, though, McFall never bothered to put any of his stories in print.I’ve said it before, but I will say it again. Action-Adventure is probably my favorite genre. This writer probably is not ever going to be regarded as great, in the conventional sense. But, at least for me, his adventures in the Caribbean are certainly among my favorite mysteries. I do want to note that, as a former sailor who spent time sailing the waters that are the subject of this tale, I have a strong prejudice for such fiction that others folks might not have. I also suffer some stress resulting from events I was a part of in the area many refer to as the Bermuda Triangle, but I shall save that for another time…Now, on with my review…POV: Although there is some third person, this story tells us, in first person, how the Jesse McDermitt experiences all that goes on. Note that there is another version of the story, a collaborative work, in which the same tale is relayed to us by author Kimberli Bindschatel, in her book, “Operation: Dolphin Spirit.” That work, though, let’s us experience the story from Poppy McVie’s viewpoint. [Note to self, buy “Operation: Dolphin Spirit.”].BLUSH FACTOR: I found very little cussing and zero eff-words in this novel and I believe it will be found enjoyable by all ages.WRITING & EDITING: Just as with most action-adventure novels, there are bits and pieces that mandate a little effort to suspend disbelief, but only on minor matters. When it comes to the technical stuff, implied when speaking of boats and sailing, it is readily apparent that the author knows what he’s talking about. What he’s especially good at, in my opinion, is giving us sufficient data to picture the scene without stuffing a lot of data down our throats.The above probably explains why this Action-Adventure was fun for me.STAND-ALONE: Although you could read this as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading at least some of the previous books first. If you don’t you will likely miss out on some of the character development that has some bearing on this story.CLIFFHANGER ENDING? No worries here. Have fun knowing that reading this book will not REQUIRE you to read the next one. Just the same, though, I’m betting you will be itching to read whatever comes next from this author.BOTTOM LINEBecause I most enjoy books with more fully-developed characters, I’m rating this four stars out of five.I am striving to produce reviews that help you find books that you want, or avoid books that you wish to avoid. With your help, my improvement will help readers find books they enjoy reading.

Rising Charity is a great new start for the Jesse McDermitt series. Wayne Stinnett has been working on guiding his 'Fallen' series in a new direction for a while now, and Rising Charity is really the first book with both feet in this new adventure series. Once again, the old crew is the new crew, and it is really nice to see everyone again. This is a great collection of characters, and Wayne has truly brought them all to be living, breathing people. As always, these books take you away to the Caribbean and that is always good. It is also good that Jesse is finally over his 'crisis of character', otherwise known as a mid-life crisis; and comes out the end as strong as ever. So now is the wait for the next Jesse book, always way too long it seems; but always worth it.

I love this series! I have read all 14 of them. I still remember the first book in the series. Jessie walks into the Rusty Anchor and starts insulting the owner of the bar. Needless to say, the locals were not happy with it until Rusty came out and hugged his best friend. I never thought I'd see the salty dog get married though. Jessie and Charity, along with Deuce and the rest of the gang have just been recruited by a man who shares their passion about the way some things should be done. While on the way home from their meeting with the guy in the middle of the ocean, they are trying out a new software program with the camera mounted on the ship when they witness the ship they were using to refine the software is dumping barrels of toxic chemicals overboard. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens next.

As the headline eludes to, Wayne Stinnett has done his job very well. I'm a fan of all books based in Florida that have action, mystery and most importantly, character driven.The series this writer has developed gives you everything you ask for. His characters are deeply developed. You have some that come and go through the series. That's real life, so they become believable. Their personalities have you thinking how they would or might handle most situations yet they can still surprise you.This book is a spinoff characters own journey, but when she needs to, she's back as a supportive team member.This book can stand on it's own. But when your done. Start at the beginning of the Jesse McDermitt series and enjoy it all.

Not a great effort from Stinnett. Very little action, really no adventure, and a lot of ho hum side chatter that had nothing to do with the plot (which was pretty thin to begin with). The middle school sexual tension between Charity and Jesse is ridiculous and annoying. Let them either get it on, or decide they won’t. Enough already. So we have a book in a series, let it stand on its own. If you haven’t read the prior books you don’t care about the background and if you have it is irritating to read it again. Overall a lame effort from an otherwise talented author. Probably made money though.

Every time I read the latest Fallen Series novel I think it's the best one yet, and it always is. In Rising Charity, there are old faces, new faces, blossoming relationships, and Jesse and his cohorts have repurposed missions, not exactly to save the world but they will definitely put a dent in the status quo of environmental terrorists, lowlifes and, other "turd fondlers" I believe the term was. This is Jesse back to his old self after taking a year-long hiatus to reassess his life and direction. Read the series, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I'm always excited to see how Wayne is going to continue this saga without it getting stake and he's done it again! As always the action is great and the description of the beautiful scenery is very pleasing but the continual character development is so lifelike. I think that is one of Wayne's greatest strengths. His characters are so real, just like us and our friends. I hope you will not only read this book I hope you'll read the entire body of Wayne Stinnett's work. There's not a bad book in the bunch!

Each book features the now-standard two-page layout with short "main" text and multiple illustrations with explanatory captions, some of which are almost as long as the central text. Troy moves from Heinrich Schliemann's fascination with Homer, to his determination to find the site of Troy, to its discovery and excavation, and finally to an investigation of life in the ancient city and the Greek legends connected with it. Tutankhamun follows Howard Carter's discovery of the tomb of the "boy-king," as well as the wealth of material found there, and then surveys Tut's life. In texts so short, there are almost bound to be oversimplifications. Troy assumes that the connection between Greek myth and history is more firmly settled than it is, referring, for example, to the treasure, city and palace of King Priam as though there were no doubt of such identifications. Only later are readers told that Priam's existence has not been established. Tut accepts Akhenaten's paternity as a given-though it is not. Even so, the titles are generally solid and are impressively illustrated. The layout for the chapter "Tutankhamun's Tomb" is especially good, depicting the plan of the tomb, a cut-through illustration of the jumbled contents, and a "flattened" sketching of the wall paintings in the burial chamber. Using a format that features clusters of text and images, often encircling a larger commanding image set on a two-page spread, Caselli sketches the background of Troy by following the work of Heinrich Schliemann, the archaeologist whose team unearthed the city. When the story gets to Priam's Troy, greater detail is added, giving readers a taste of what it was like to live within the city walls and towers, as a commoner or as a king. Under discussion are architecture and social structure; he speculates on the role of the sacred in Trojan life, from Bronze Age idols to Greek statues. Then, with just the right amount of drama, Caselli tells the story of the Trojan War: of Paris's kidnapping of Helen, the ten-year siege, and Laocoon's warning about Greeks bearing gifts, especially big wooden ones in the form of a horse. Caselli separates what is known as fact from what is likely fiction, but not so rudely as to erase the mystery and poetry of the Homeric legend as it hovers over Schliemann's dig. We have a child who is extremely interested in Ancient Greece. He built a model of the Trojan Horse Make This Model Trojan Horse (Usborne Cut-Out Models) and a model of the Parthenon. This is a great book on the search for the ruins of Troy, and what was found at the archaeological dig. Does a good job with Heinrich Schliemann. Good historical information, very nice illustrations. This one is a keeper.

Harry was a great person. He was a credit to Amateur boxing and a wonderful coach to a countless numberof boys in the Golden Glove program. I had the honor to know him and he is really missed.

i know harry davis personally, and he is definitely an incredible man, along with his dear wife charlotte (who has passed on). This book is a wonderful read, and details the struggles of a black youth growing up in the early 20th century, along with talking about harry's dedication to the civil rights struggles in the 60's and 70's. A great book!UPDATE: 8/11/06 - Harry Davis passed away today. We'll miss you Harry. Please read this book and learn about an exceptional man, and how one person can make a difference.
