It's a nice book but my 3 year old was upset on the part where it showed aimals eating the butterfly's.

I ordered several of this book. I gave it to young children along with a gift certificate to send away for 5 caterpillars to watch the caterpillar to butterfly process. The parents said each child loved it.

I live in Ireland and I sent this to my granddaughter in San Francisco. She is almost 6 and lives in an apartment. She enjoyed the experience of watching the Butterflies emerge and then letting them go in the park. On a sad note the first lot of caterpillars she received arrived dead but more were sent. It might be a good idea to check the state of the caterpillars before you let the child see the kit.

My primary kiddos enjoyed this book during our life cycle unit. It was a favorite for all the student, no matter their reading level. The photos were very colorful and caught their attention. The combination of text and graphics made learning fun.

My 4 year old loves this book. There are plenty of photographs to go along with and support the information and facts included. Easy to understand for even my young reader. This would also be a great resource for reports for older children.

The book was not that great of a read for my 6year old. I would label it more of picture book for toddlers

I was hoping the book would show pictures of different types of butterflies, which it sort of does.

Informative but not overwhelming for young readers. Love National Geographic books!

Library book. No purchase. Fun book. Mostly photos. Texas Rollergirls and their exploits. On and off the flat track. I barely remember this stuff from my early years in the late 50s and early 60s. It has been resurrected and it certainly looks as if the ladies are having a grand time doing it, too. Great photos of women apparently having a wonderful time competing against other women. Domestically and internationally. London Rollergirls, too. I doubt we will have anywhere near the fun reading/looking @ it as they do participating, but it is fantastic nonetheless.

As someone who owns more than 200 Cookbooks and purchased this one after reading the reviews here I find that this one doesn't come close to matching the rave reviews. It is a beautiful book with gorgeous, abundant photographs. But I would categorize this as a coffee table book with recipes rather than a book for cooks who want to add to their recipe repertoire. In fact, I realize I should have been wary of any book with 100% 5-star reviews and was going to return this book (the first cookbook I ever intended to return,) however, the $8.96 return fee discouraged me. I would caution a potential buyer to perhaps look at this book IRL before making a purchase.

I am so excited to finally receive this book. I’ve been waiting for this for a while, because I had the amazing pleasure and experience to cook with Marjorie and Kendall a few years ago.Frame of reference about me: I am a self-taught cook since 1997. However, I had always wanted to take an extended course, at least a week in France as that is the area of cooking with which I am most familiar. After a lot of research, I chose Marjorie’s course in Burgundy.Marjorie comes with an impressive culinary history. What particularly interested my was that she studied at La Varenne under Anne Willan. I chose to take a 5 day course with my brother. Kendall’s knowledge of Bourgogne wines and cheeses is extremely impressive. We spent about 6-8 hours each day, cooking, talking, and learning.Because they are so careful to choose products that reflect what is in in season, you only get to cook a portion of their recipe catalogue when you work with them in Beaune. With this book, I now get a whole collection of the recipes, beyond what we were able to make during the week with them.She trained with some of the best, and it’s reflected in the recipes. Also, because she works so closely with local producers and artisans, she has all their knowledge at her disposal.This is an outstanding book from an outstanding chef, and the only thing that could be better would be to go back to make more of the recipes with her.

I was delighted to hear Marjorie was coming out with a cookbook. I was able to take a class with her in Beaune. We met at the market place in the city's main square to shop for provisions and then spent the day cooking a most delicious memorable meal, with wine of course. What an experience.Her cookbook arrived today and I can't put it down. The photographs are beautiful and inspiring. Her story of how she began and introductions to some of her favorite food purveyors are a joy to read. The recipes not complicated and easy for any level cook. I can't decide which one to start with. What a wonderful book this is, a labor of love for sure, it's gorgeous and takes you beyond the authors' atelier. Anson Smart's photos really capture their beautiful world in Beaune, one of the prettiest spots in France. Their recipes are written with care and what surprised me was their unique concept for chapters. You expect seasonal cooking in French cookbooks, but their particular subchapters put you in the center of their lifestyle, like Jam Day, Dinner in the Wine Shop, Beaujolais Nouveau, Fireside Cooking. I unpacked my book this morning, finding the back cover photo facing me: two copper molds with souffles popping up, held by cooks in floury white aprons - I was hooked. You will be too.

I was very diappointed in this book. The story was short and seemed trite-certainly not like a David Lebowitz book, or even Julia Child, as far as recipes/techniques. The photography was beautiful, perhaps that was what this book should have been billed as, with the recipes and techniques of secondary importance.

Full disclosure here...I have attended cooking classes in Beaune with the authors. I bought the cookbook because the class experience was just incredible. I am happy to say the book is even better. The recipes are written such that a basic cook can now become an accomplished French cook on many special dishes. The photography is terrific, so good you can almost smell the dishes. I would highly recommend buying the book as a gift for your favorite cook, but I would even more recommend buying it for yourself. If you are a cookbook addict, like I am, you will not be disappointed. Also, be sure to schedule a class if you are lucky enough to go to France.

This is one of those cookbooks that tells a beautiful story of the path to a dream. I believe this mother-daughter team is doing precisely what they were meant to do .Having visited Beaune a few years ago, I feel the photography captures the essence of this special place. It really is this beautiful. The stories of the local farmers, bakers, florists, vineyards, etc. is so important to the authenticity of this cookbook and to the success of this cooking school. I love the techniques section as most cookbooks do not go into this much detail . My husband and I actually cooked our first recipe from "The Cook's Atelier" yesterday, Pan-Seared Veal Chop with White Wine Jus. It was so easy to do and delicious - and we will be making more soon! This would make a great Mother's Day gift for those that love French cooking.

I cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful book. The pictures are beautiful and showcase each recipe. The recipes range from easy to complex (most are only one page in length with a fairly short ingredient list), something that makes this cookbook practical as well as lovely. The techniques are explained in detail, almost as if you are at the Beaune cooking school itself (which I also highly recommend). It's so nice to both be able to read about the shop as well as cook recipes from it. Reading through the book, I was transported back to Beaune, back to France, back to a simpler, richer way of life...and inspired to incorporate this beauty into my daily life. This book will be proudly displayed on my countertop and I'm sure that in no time, it will be well worn, splashed, stained, and loved. Now, off to cook.

Great book. However, the concept of marriage and having children when you grow up is brought up. Not something I feel comfortable explaining to my toddlers, or young child. However, I felt it was good for my seven year old to get a hint of the idea, without going into too much detail.

This book touched on so many of the emotions I faced nearly 40 years ago when my baby girl was born with Downs. The book offers hope to any who are faced with any disability. The book makes it clear that no amount of hurt about a disability can take away from the fact that our children are a gift from God and they will each make their own impact on their world. Highly recommend this book not only to parents, but to anyone that wants to read about true love- the love of parents for their children.

Brought back a lot of the same emotions we went through when our son was born 32 years ago. We faced a lot of negativity from the medical community. Bringing to light the accomplishments of person with Down Syndrome does present a very positive outlook for new parents. Very well written. Highly recommended reading.

I got this book because my son also was born with Down syndrome. I think anyone who knows their child will have a disability should read this. I just wish I would have found something like this to read 13 years ago. It is a wonderful book.

I thought the dream and then the reality was far fetched. I realize that people with DS have various degrees of skills but a concert pianist and his knowledge of music and the ability to speak was overdone. I am the mother of an adult daughter with DS who is very high functioning. I was disappointed in the book.

Great description of emotions...we also went through a diagnosis before birth and know exactly what it feels like! I would recommend reading this book to any parent that has just learn their baby will come to this world with this extra chromosome...extra amazing chromosome I would have to add :) My son is the perfect son for us and I would not change a single thing about him! Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Bought this as a gift for my teen. She loves it! It's detailed, the explanations are very clear and detailed and the drawings are wonderful. Very happy with this purchase!

I really love Chris Hart's art books and 'how to' art books in general, but this book is sub par for Chris.My biggest disappointment was the serious lack of 'how to' drawing illustrations actually included in this book. This book is comprised of mostly completed illustrations, and lacks the sort of detail Manga is famous for.The sections on 'head shots' is simplistic, the line quality heavy, and the color unspectacular. To make matters worse, over 3/4 of the book is filled with finished drawings. If you are the sort of artist who learns by looking at finished illustrations, this book is for you. However, if you were looking for a 'step-by-step' approach, this book would be a poor choice.I recommend reviewing this book before purchasing.

This is a picture book that discusses, in very general terms, anime drawing. It does not teach anything. There are no outlines of how certain anime staples are created, etc, etc. A waste of money.

My artist granddaughter loves anime and is really going to love getting this book. It is very nice and she will enjoy it.

My husband found out that his cholesterol is VERY high a couple of weeks ago. I ordered this book along with a few others to try to change my southern way of cooking. Out of all the books, this one has the best and easiest to prepare recipes and my husband has enjoyed every meal. He says it’s easy eating healthy. Hmmm.

My wife would have given it 5 stars but she is a cookbook picture type. So if pictures are a necessity in a cook book, you may want to rethink this one. On a positive note, she hasn't come across a recipe she wouldn't try and I haven't eaten one I didn't like.

Loved this book. Just finished reading through it and it is so well-written and easy to read. The author’s story in the ‘Introduction’ about finding out she has high cholesterol and deciding to lower it with diet and exercise and launching a blog was interesting. The section about dietary fiber was useful since I already take fiber daily to lower my cholesterol, and this gives me additional options. I learned a lot about cholesterol reading this book, and am looking forward to trying the recipes.

As someone with Type I Diabetes, it is vital to keep my cholesterol low and my heart healthy. I just came across this cookbook. I think it just came out? I tried one of the chicken recipes last night and even my picky husband liked it.I will definitely be turning to it again...maybe tonight!

I absolutely love this cookbook. It has been very useful. I initially followed the weekly meal planning and now I am trying out the recipes and creating my own meal plans. All the recipes in this book are very easy to prepare and all the ingredients for me have been easy to find. I write notes in the margin of each recipe I have tried referencing the tastiness of the recipe. I would have to say almost every single one has been a fine dining delight. There are a few recipes that I did not like but I know that is typical of all cookbooks. My favorite recipes so far have been the Chicken and Zucchini Burgers, Baked Sweet Potatoes Fries, Slower cooker Hawaiian Chicken, Steamed Rosemary Trout in Parchment with spinach, Spiced Baked apples, Blueberry Blender Nice Cream, Butternut Mac and Cheese, Creamy Oat bran with Apricots to name a few. I could go on and on though. Recipes are well laid out and very easy to follow. All easily made within 30 minutes. The author has given excellent information to eat healthy and living a lower cholesterol and heart healthy diet and lifestyle change. Its easy and very satisfying. I have shared my food with friend and they love it. My 15 year old picky daughter likes the food. Yay, now that is something to be said. Can't say enough on how much I like this cookbook. I also have shared this info with friends and family.

This book has been very helpful with figuring out my cholesterol issues. Less boring than the one put out by the AHA. Recipes are easy to follow though I often have to add more herbs or spices to bump up the flavor. A lot of the recipes are for slow cookers which I do not have, but you can adapt them.

I love how the author explains in detailed but easy-to-understand terms what cholesterol is, why it’s a problem, and how you can lower it naturally with food and exercise. The ‘Foods that Lower Cholesterol’ section was interesting, and my whole family (some vegetarian) liked the Gemelli Salad with Green Beans and Pistachios - it was delicious and easy to make!

This cookbook does so much more than present recipes (although they are great). It clearly explains the health issues behind cholesterol and how I can get healthier by changing the way I eat. Well-written and beautifully laid out - this one is a keeper!
