Good book. It is great to have a book dedicated to this medium. It simplifies the process of painting with water-soluble oils. It does go through a lot of things that are not specific to this new medium, so a lot of writing is "wasted" on issues that you can resolve with other books on oils and color theory. But, the author does cover everything very thoroughly and clearly.

This a wonderful introduction to oil painting. True, there's not that much specifically about water soluble paints-but that's easy to overlook because this book is overall so truly motivating. The author demystifies the process with simple and practical instructions that seem almost designed for a child-which is what a beginner at something really is. This book eliminates fear and instills confidence-what else could you want?Finally, her paintings are beautiful and inspiring in their apparent simplicity. Get it!

At first I thought this book might be a little too basic, based on the little cartoons, but she packs a ton of very useful information and principles into the content and exercises. I found this very fun to read, and actually did some of the exercises. If you are interested in painting with water-soluables, this little book is more than worth the cost, and the paintings by the author are inspiring!!!

The exercises are very helpfull. I am new to oil painting, did water color in the 90s. I am happy that you can wash brushes and dilute the paint with medium and water.

I found the instructions difficult to follow. I have returned home to acrylics.

This book is fantstic. I was looking specifically for Maria Sybilla Merian because she had joined the Labadists colony and I was hoping to find names and connections to my ancestors who were also in this Labadist colony. But I ended up reading about all three women. Natalie Zemon Davis does an excellent job of creating a narrative and makes their lives so transparent. Her research and documentation of the informastion she finds is the best I've yet found in any of my readings. Her bibliography is impressive. The three women she chooses to highlight are compelling historically relative figures in their own right even though women back then had limited opportunities. These three women find a way to carve out an imporant roll in life and leave a legacy that is difficult to overlook. Kudos to the author for this book. I'm glad I found it.

An important work for researchers of the life, times, and work of the artist and pioneer naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian. There's more to learn here than just popular biography/history.

I had to read this book for a course on Medieval Women, and I'm so glad I did! The book is well-written, engaging, and compels you to read further. Even people who might not know much about history would probably also enjoy this book. I love to read history through the lives of real people, and I felt that the author's choice of these three women was excellent. You get quite a vivid picture of what these women's lives were like. If you are at all interested in women's lives in Europe in the 17th century, then you should check out this book. Even if you tend to think that anything before the 20th century is boring, you might want to try this book out and see how interesting the pre-modern world can be.

Decent book, I was not aware of the woes that women faced in the past. If you enjoy womens' tales, read this book. One book that beats Fifty Shades of Grey in suspense, as well as plot. A good read.

Our family went for Umrah, and I had my kids (teens) read also to learn the procedures and memorize du'as.The diagrams are very good, also, illustrated in a text-book example manner that made them easy to understand and memorize.I agree that it is good to read a more detailed book also, but this was a fantastic guide book.

This is a good introduction book for those who know nothing about Hajj. It lists the basic steps involved in a Hajj step-by-step, however, it does not go into explanation or detail of the steps. For example, the step "Going to Makkah" has four bullet points under it. There is no explanation of where to stay in Makkah, no list of accomodations, no introduction to Makkah, no information about tour groups or others who may arrange for Hajj trips.Other steps are similarly lacking in detail. Like three types of Hajj are listed but there is no mention as to which Hajj will fit what type of curcumstances. The author suggests to enter the al-masjid Al-Haraam from as-Salam gate, however, the sketch of the masjid Al-Haraam on the next page lists all the other gates except the As-Salam gate!!!I was quite disappointed with lack of details in this book. I will have to look for another book for details.

I performed hajj last year. My husband purchased this book for me just before we left. During the long plane ride I read the whole book. It was very good about telling you the essential things you need to know about hajj and all the steps to performing the Hajj. I saw the Hajj as one of the most important exams of my life and I wanted to be as prepared as possible and this books was KEY!

This book challenged me a great deal. I have found learning to think biblically is a challenge given the swirling winds of thought in the world. I learned to ask some questions that I would not have asked before. I plan to read this again in the near future to help me better understand all that the book presented. There were a lot of questions in the book to help the reader apply the ideas that were presented.

This was a hard read but a good one. I wanted to develop my opinion on death and dying so I wasn’t just spouting from what I’d seen on Facebook. Who better to teach me than someone who’s been a quadriplegic for more than 50 years? I feel more equipped to face the death of a loved one or my own suffering and I bought a copy for my friend who is a nurse.

I love the books she writes. We need to make a difficult decision about having a DNR or not for our severely disabled child. I wanted some faithful, Christian guidance to go along with discussions we’ll be having with our Catholic clergy.The book purchased on Amazon was the least expensive way of ordering it. Not to mention the convenience of avoiding a bookstore and getting something more!

Joni gives a perspective that only she can after 50+years of being disabled. I found a lot of wisdom in these pages, both for me as a health care provider and as a Christian. This book is timely and thought provoking.

A refreshing look at a controversial subject from someone who knows firsthand. It seems we are being bulldozed into the direction of assisted suicide and Joni makes us step back and look at the implications.

As Joni always is ....this is a very thoughtful and respectful perspective.

I have always thought that I would never want to be a burden to my family so I have thought I would never want life support to keep me alive. But Joni points out the value of suffering both for the sufferer and for those who watch them suffer while still living for God's glory in whatever way they can. Our suffering with a godly attitude can be a blessing to us and to others.

Joni Eareckson Tada brings her great wisdom to this most sensitive issue. As always, she shed great light on this. Great read! I highly recommend it!

A graduate of Harvard University, he was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where he earned his master's degree in English, before earning his doctoral degree in English and American literature at Yale University.CAROLINE HOXBY is an award-winning professor of Economics at Stanford University, a world leading scholar in the Economics of Education, and one of the architects of Stanford's Education as Self-Fashioning program. She is also the Director of the Economics of Education Program at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. Caroline has received multiple honors, including the John and Lydia Pearce Mitchell University Fellowship, Stanford Economics Teacher of the Year, and a Phi Beta Kappa prize.
