Bought this as a gift for my teen. She loves it! It's detailed, the explanations are very clear and detailed and the drawings are wonderful. Very happy with this purchase!

I really love Chris Hart's art books and 'how to' art books in general, but this book is sub par for Chris.My biggest disappointment was the serious lack of 'how to' drawing illustrations actually included in this book. This book is comprised of mostly completed illustrations, and lacks the sort of detail Manga is famous for.The sections on 'head shots' is simplistic, the line quality heavy, and the color unspectacular. To make matters worse, over 3/4 of the book is filled with finished drawings. If you are the sort of artist who learns by looking at finished illustrations, this book is for you. However, if you were looking for a 'step-by-step' approach, this book would be a poor choice.I recommend reviewing this book before purchasing.

This is a picture book that discusses, in very general terms, anime drawing. It does not teach anything. There are no outlines of how certain anime staples are created, etc, etc. A waste of money.

My husband found out that his cholesterol is VERY high a couple of weeks ago. I ordered this book along with a few others to try to change my southern way of cooking. Out of all the books, this one has the best and easiest to prepare recipes and my husband has enjoyed every meal. He says it’s easy eating healthy. Hmmm.

My wife would have given it 5 stars but she is a cookbook picture type. So if pictures are a necessity in a cook book, you may want to rethink this one. On a positive note, she hasn't come across a recipe she wouldn't try and I haven't eaten one I didn't like.

Loved this book. Just finished reading through it and it is so well-written and easy to read. The author’s story in the ‘Introduction’ about finding out she has high cholesterol and deciding to lower it with diet and exercise and launching a blog was interesting. The section about dietary fiber was useful since I already take fiber daily to lower my cholesterol, and this gives me additional options. I learned a lot about cholesterol reading this book, and am looking forward to trying the recipes.

As someone with Type I Diabetes, it is vital to keep my cholesterol low and my heart healthy. I just came across this cookbook. I think it just came out? I tried one of the chicken recipes last night and even my picky husband liked it.I will definitely be turning to it again...maybe tonight!

I absolutely love this cookbook. It has been very useful. I initially followed the weekly meal planning and now I am trying out the recipes and creating my own meal plans. All the recipes in this book are very easy to prepare and all the ingredients for me have been easy to find. I write notes in the margin of each recipe I have tried referencing the tastiness of the recipe. I would have to say almost every single one has been a fine dining delight. There are a few recipes that I did not like but I know that is typical of all cookbooks. My favorite recipes so far have been the Chicken and Zucchini Burgers, Baked Sweet Potatoes Fries, Slower cooker Hawaiian Chicken, Steamed Rosemary Trout in Parchment with spinach, Spiced Baked apples, Blueberry Blender Nice Cream, Butternut Mac and Cheese, Creamy Oat bran with Apricots to name a few. I could go on and on though. Recipes are well laid out and very easy to follow. All easily made within 30 minutes. The author has given excellent information to eat healthy and living a lower cholesterol and heart healthy diet and lifestyle change. Its easy and very satisfying. I have shared my food with friend and they love it. My 15 year old picky daughter likes the food. Yay, now that is something to be said. Can't say enough on how much I like this cookbook. I also have shared this info with friends and family.

This book has been very helpful with figuring out my cholesterol issues. Less boring than the one put out by the AHA. Recipes are easy to follow though I often have to add more herbs or spices to bump up the flavor. A lot of the recipes are for slow cookers which I do not have, but you can adapt them.

I love how the author explains in detailed but easy-to-understand terms what cholesterol is, why it’s a problem, and how you can lower it naturally with food and exercise. The ‘Foods that Lower Cholesterol’ section was interesting, and my whole family (some vegetarian) liked the Gemelli Salad with Green Beans and Pistachios - it was delicious and easy to make!

This cookbook does so much more than present recipes (although they are great). It clearly explains the health issues behind cholesterol and how I can get healthier by changing the way I eat. Well-written and beautifully laid out - this one is a keeper!

Kindergarten-Grade 3-With a Woolly Boolly Barbecue, wombats, eucalyptus trees, Platypus Pond, and a famous Koala-K Race in evidence, readers know that this picture book takes place in Australia. A curious mix of tall tale and morality lesson, the plot is pegged on a true incident of a race run and won by a 61-year-old farmer who outdistanced much younger and supposedly better-trained opponents. Long-legged, overall-clad Joshua Summerhayes trains by herding sheep on his ranch, runs in gumboots, gulps down all manner of pumpkin concoctions as fuel, and splits his $10,000 winnings with his competitors. The oils-on-canvas paintings, awash in warm oranges and dappled pastels, shine through wide-open spaces. The rancher's "Ah, shucks" nature combines with his large, almost disproportionate body to create a Paul Bunyan-like figure. Although there are moments of tension in the race and positive feelings for the underdog, the text is not as strong as the artwork. The story ambles along with more or less simple declarative sentences that do not engage readers or sustain the tall-tale quality of the events described. This book was in excellent condition and arrived in good time. I absolutely love this cute story, based on a real event. The artwork might not appeal to some, but I think it is very appropriate to the story. One of my favorites!

My granddaughter told me about this story; her teacher had read it in her classroom. She's not a book lover, so I knew it made an impression on her. Nice tale, great illustrations, perfect for an elementary school classroom--or a read aloud book at home.

What a good one on one read this one is...as a matter of fact, it makes a very nice group read too!As noted by the author, this children's book is based on the true story and was inspired by a fellow in Australia, Cliff Young, who at the age of 61 meandered through the famous (infamous race...depending on how you look at it) from Sydney to Melbourne, a total of 542 miles, and actually won; beating all of the younger contenders! Like the hero of the story featured in this book, Cliff shared the $10,000.00 winnings with the other participants of the race. Our book hero, like Cliff, is around 61 years old.This is the story of an old sheep rancher, Joshua Summerhayes and his dog, which goes by the name of Yellow Dog. From a small lad, Joshua ran; he ran everywhere, but for the most part ran after his sheep and back and forth from the family pumpkin patch. He and the great-great-great grandparent of Yellow Dog ran after the sheep, taking care of the flock on into the current times when others used trucks, jeeps, planes, motorcycles and such. No, Joshua and Yellow dog did it my foot and a goodly run, with Joshua wearing only his gumboots as foot wear.Joshua was for the most part fueled by Pumpkins. He simply could not get enough of the wonderful pumpkins his family raised in their own patch. One day, when Joshua, now an old man, and Yellow Dog, no longer a puppy himself, were setting on the porch after a long run over to Bandicoot Creek, Joshua read a flyer advertising the 12 Annual Koalo-K Race. He and Yellow Dog decide to run.What follows is a story of that race; of Joshua and Yellow Dog, of gum boots and slices of pumpkin to keep him going. A story of an older, sort of laid back guy, dressed in overall, gumboots and with a common looking yellow dog, and how they defeated the younger, better conditioned (or so they thought) and much better dressed runners. The discussion between training methods and clothing between the younger runners and the old guy for the Outback is absolutely hilarious.This is a very well told tale. A central theme of pumpkins runs throughout and the author refers to them constantly in a lighthearted way. If you enjoy running, you will love this one. If you are not a runner, you will enjoy it anyway. Kids seem to love this one. It is told in a very "homey" laidback manner, much like the main character of the book.The art work in this book is by Brad Sneed who is one of my favorite. Mr. Sneed has obviously been strongly influenced by Thomas Hart Benton, who happens to be one of my favorite American painters. His illustrations of a previous book, Smoky Mountain Rose by Alan Schroeder hooked me on this artist.This book of course has an extremely strong Australian flavor, as it should have, and the kids will be introduced to some wonderful names and sayings which could only be thought up by an Australian. I like this.It would be extremely difficult to find any fault what-so-ever with this work and I do suggest you get a copy for your child's library. I have been utilizing this book for my college speech course for the last 2 years. The students sit in a circle and discuss 2 or 3 chapters (depending on the length). Since I have 30 students and there are 30 chapters, each student is assigned a chapter and are the experts on the chapter--they teach what they learned. Also, the student prepares 2 or 3 discussion questions for students to generate discussion. It is an effective way to teach. I empower them to teach each other and every day amazing things happen in the classroom. It is an enjoyable experience to walk into a classroom and have students excited to discuss the readings and participate in the class discussion readily. The book makes my teaching easy. The examples in the book allows us to have discussions on deeper topics of race, inequity, gun control, the me too movement, politics, religion and so much more. My students tell me that it is one of the only books they have actually read cover to cover. In fact, some students begin reading it again after we finish to get a deeper understanding of the material. As a college professor, I can tell you this never happens in other courses with textbooks.

The fact that this is required reading for AP English is another example of why education in the United States is floundering. The author, in an apparent effort to be edgy, has created a text that is gratuitously sexual, political, stereotypical, and oft times repetitive. While a college student might possess the ability to discern what is factual versus what is merely opinion, I worry an average sixteen year old might fall victim to the author’s narrative. While the author is clearly both intelligent and clever, he also falls victim to his own hubris. If his goal was to teach the art of persuasion, he probably could have been more persuasive if he had avoided the endless political and sexual references. Let’s face it, that’s a cheap way to entertain a young audience. A perfect example can be found on page 21 under the heading ‘How to Manipulate a Lover’ and it involves pouring more wine.

As a teacher of AP English Language and Composition, a course in rhetoric, this title has proved as a valuable tool for my students. Not only is the writing informative, but his style makes difficult concepts easily accessible. His conversational tone and use of relevant, current examples has engaged my students and really helped them not only understand and be able to identify the rhetoric of others but also effectively use it themselves.

I have a PhD in English (emphasis rhetoric/composition) and I've been teaching Heinrich's book to my intermediate college writing students (mostly freshmen and sophomores) for the past 5+ years. This isn't a perfect book (I don't agree with everything Heinrich's writes), but I've found it to be a useful entry point into rhetorical concepts, and students generally find it engaging and fun.

An excellent introduction to rhetoric, and a very entertaining listen. The information is deep enough, that I bought the print copy after listening to the audio book, so I could pause and digest the information more thoroughly. And I'm finding the read is just as entertaining as the listen was, and twice as informative.

Strangely sexual. Chose not to use in the high school classroom.

Wow. This is a great book! I love this guys way of explaining these and how he goes from one subject to another, bravo to Jay Heinrichs! This book needs to be read by every high school and college student! It is perfect for every essay and even every argument, it gives a better overall view of everything! Get this book!

Clever writer and informative. I love the review of college Logic. Full of humor and good examples . . . but . . . as I mentioned above, he is often not balanced in his critique of political positions, that is, I felt the cudgel a bit too often. Of course, this is subjective, but so is every review.

directions are a little hard when you get into the trickier folds

concise, easy to understand with lots of pics.

I bought this book as ribbon trim was used on clothing a lot during the Civil War. It was recommended in a newsletter by Jennifer Rosbrough, I found it interesting as well as useful. I checked out other ribbon trim books, but the information in them did not apply for the use I desired it for. The instructions and photos are detailed illustrations, and the directions seem easy to follow. The uses I plan for the trims are mainly on dress bodices and skirts, as well as trimming for bonnets. The designs are rated easy, intermediate, and challenging to give you an idea of how difficult they are to recreate. I have shown this book to several other women who sew for Civil War era clothing and they thought it was a great book. I have not made any of the trims yet, but I plan to in the near future on my next project. I have only had this book about two weeks.

There are so many great ideas, and the pictures to help make them are easy to follow. Really love this book, and even thou it is used, it is in very good shape.

I like this book and the ribbons within. I also like the idea of spiral bound books.What I have to complain is that it is quite "dated" by now, it is quite obvious by the styling and background. Which is unnecessary. If the ribbons of simple and timeless motif/print and the background solid color it would be more timeless.But other than that, it is a nice book.

About the Author

Gleason Archer Jr. received a PhD in Classics from Harvard University, an LL.B from Suffolk Law School and a Bachelor of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Early in his career, Archer served as assistant pastor at Park Street Church in Boston. In 1948 he became Professor of Biblical Languages at Fuller Theological Seminary in California and in 1965 Professor of the Old Testament and Semitics at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois, where he later became an emeritus faculty member in 1989. Dr. R.C. Sproul recommended this book on one of his programs, and that was enough for me. I purchased it and of course, he was absolutely right about the wealth of information in it. What a blessing!

A handy reference which seeks to explain many (not all) supposed 'difficulties' found within the Bible. Many 'difficulties' are the result of ignorance, while others are the result of deliberate attacks (which use misinformation). Still others require extensive hermeneutics and exegesis to tease out understanding and Truth. This effort is useful for most and is therefore recommended. Deeper Truth requires more effort than can be found here.

I preach part-time and Archer's book is very helpful when I come to a rather difficult passage. Archer knew approximately 23 languages during his lifetime, and while his knowledge of the Biblical languages is helpful at times, at other times it can be overwhelming.,

Though there are a lot of equations in this book, it is far more conceptual than the widely accepted Mitchell MRI book, and not as mathematically oriented as you would think at first glance. If you are starting out in MRI, read this book first and you'll have a good foundation for further learning. Mitchell's book, on the other hand, is too confusing for the first timer, and might cause you significant confusion when you move to other MR physics books because you are missing the fundamentals. Overall I highly recommend this book to any M.D. who wants to know fundamental MRI physics.

A great look at MRI, if one wants more of a mathematical approach. Just have to be willing to put in the time to get it though.

This is by far the easiest to understand MRI book I've seen.It does miss out on the more mathematical and derivative aspects, but there are other texts to fill in the blanks for the interested reader. The tradeoff in focusing on comprehension is worthwhile.

This is what I would call "conceptual MRI," clearly aimed at people who don't need much depth in understanding MRI. I don't hold that against the authors, because the title is "MRI: The Basics." It's delivering what it promises.I do hold against the authors the abundance of errors and the lack of brevity in the book. By dumbing down the topic to make the concepts understandable, the authors often got the concepts somewhat wrong. For example, they claim that MRI is achieved by reflection of fields off of nuclei. That's not really accurate, although most readers would probably take it at face value. The book is full of these inaccuracies and sloppy math (e.g., equations in which the dimensions on each side are not equivalent). Regarding brevity, I often find the same statements repeated over and over for several pages. With every new paragraph the authors must start their explanation back at the very beginning, so it takes many words to explain very little.On the plus side, there are very good figures in the book which aid in understanding. If things were explained more concisely, I would want to keep this book around as a reference. But the information is so diffuse that I would have to read a lot to find what I am looking for.If someone has just one opportunity to learn about MRI or just needs to be able to run a scanner, then I would recommend this book. I was eager to know whether Amazon.com was a genuine company or a con (fraudulent) company. After registering and searching for the book I wanted, I placed an order. The processing was so fast and delivery was done immediately. I could believe what was happening. It took less than 5 days to get the book from USA to Australia, much shorter than what would take from local bookshops that were outsourcing the same book locally. I cannot imagine buying books any other way except through amazon.Amazon.com, you are great and keep up the good work.Samuel.
