If you are a beginner to astrology, I can imagine this would be difficult to understand. I have been studying astrology for years, read countless books and studied the signs and their characteristics. This book goes beyond to explain the houses and the elements to the planets and even the energies to full understanding.I highly recommend this book if you are intermediate to advanced in understanding astrology. This book will take you beyond what you know. Again, this is not for the beginner. Highly recommend.

Arroyo presents a broader view of Astrology than usual, by viewing it as a whole - a part of everything, a system of interconnected parts- and yet at the same time this book manages to take such a vast all-encompassing concept and present it in a way that's easy to grasp, understand, and most importantly, use. Arroyo always enlightens, and this book is essential for beginning and advanced students of astrology. You will view the world differently.

I like Arroya and does a very good job of describing western astrology. As a professional astrologer he provides a lot of insights and descriptions that can add to any astrologers vocabulary.

This book is not as good as I'd hoped, but I had better clarify as to why I feel this way. I should have read it when I was still a novice astrologer. It is the definitive bridge between beginning and intermediate astrology: those of us who have gotten our planetary and elemental attributions down have begun to see the bigger picture, which is that astrology and psychology are linked whether one cares to admit it or not. I think I was hoping for more because of how I've been viewing astrology for some time. However to see just the title of this book is sort of already saying what we want to hear, what has been swimming in circles in the mind. And this is why you should read this book as soon as astrology captures your heart and not a moment later. You can feel content to hold up your head even when people at the dinner table are spewing madly about what a crock of crap astrology is. I'd like to hear more about what happens when astrologers are in the big chair in the couseling office.

This is a really great book with lots of cool ideas for exploring the city. The book breaks out rides based on the kind of bike that you have, which I really like a lot.The only downside is that the directions can be a little confusing if you're on a bike and trying to follow along. In particular, the ride like the one around Lake Union has a lot of turns because it's in an urban area and bounces back and forth between trails and roads. I ended up purchasing a GPS unit to put in the coordinates (provided by the book) to be able to follow along.

The is the Best book available for the Best rides in Seattle and communities within 30-minutes of the city. Well written, complete with useful maps and pictures and will invite riders to try something new next weekend.

Great as a Kindle app that can be downloaded to your phone and used as a reference on the route. Has turn by turn directions and a nice collection of options, if you are on a "biking date".

A nice variety of rides with good detail, information, and pictures.

While, there's no shortage of course maps you can find on the Internet, this book provides a more curated set of rides with way more context than you would find on Strava or RideWithGPS.I highly recommend it to anyone exploring the city and surrounding area by bike, whether you're just looking to start or if you're looking for more inspiration.

I have looked for a comprehensive book about bike trails in all of King County outside of Seattle and there is just not such a thing. This, at least, a recent book and covers some of the county trails as well as the metro area. Why someone can't write a book, like the hiking books, about local bicycling I have no idea. I have been looking for several years. So this is the best I could do and it is okay, but not exactly what I wanted.

To all of you who are complaining that this book is too short - you are correct, it is shorter than the other Pigeon books, but NOT because it's poorly written, but because it is aimed at a YOUNGER audience! It is perfect for my 19 month-old grandson, who loves this book and hollers BUS! every time we read it. He is way too young for those longer pigeon books his 3 1/2 year-old older brother just adores. The problem lies with whoever put together this webpage. (See update below) They really missed the ball. Nowhere on the page does it warn that it is a toddler-aged book. Also, a lot of you complained that the title says hardcover, but what arrived was not. It's a BOARD book. (I was surprised when I received it - I was expecting the full size version.) I guess we all need to look a little more carefully at the product details before we order - the number of pages (12 vs. 40) and the book's dimensions would have been a clue. But a little clarity and transparency in the webpage certainly would have helped! Amazon, get your act together!Update: Actually, there are at least two Amazon webpages for this book. One of them is clear and fully fleshed out, so to speak, and the other, the one where I bought my copy, has all the problems described in this review. The review shows up on both of them, so, it might be a bit confusing, depending upon which one you are on....!

My great nephew is crazy about The Pigeon! He's turning six on Saturday & I can't wait to give him these new books. They've been so helpful to him in learning to read. I gave him one for Christmas and he literally jumped up & down with excitement. I got a really big hug out of it too :-)

First a personal confession: I love, love, LOVE the pigeon in Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!. So much so that when I was decorating the baby's room in advance of the baby, I worked a little pigeon into all the paintings. Almost three years later, and I still find it amusing. So when I saw that there was a pigeon board book, of course, I just had to buy it.And I did. Second confession: I don't LOVE this pigeon as much, but I still like it. And what's more, my toddler boy seems to prefer it to the original, at least right now. He loves the vehicles and thinks the pigeon is silly. So, considering that the Smidgeon of Pigeon series is not written for me, but is, in fact, written for toddlers, this book and the others are definitely a great investment if you are buying books for toddlers.

The book I ordered said "hardcover". This book is not. This is a small board book, with few pages. As such, the "story" doesn't make any sense. Why did they bother printing it? My son loves the Pigeon books, but we read this one once and he has forgotten about it.

Probably my own fault, I should have read reviews -- I thought this would be more of a narrative like the other pigeon books but it isn't and I was disappointed.

My daughter loves these books. They are easy to read and helps build confidence when they are learning to read. We have bought all of the pigeon books.

Absolutely love these books! They are simple, funny, and engaging. Even better when you get them on sale, but well worth to add to any child's book collection!

My toddler loves all of the pigeon books and I like having a board book that he can look at by himself without destroying it.

Works for us!!

As with any parenting book, this one has its pros and cons. When I first read it, I didn't mind the dismissive, humiliating tone. I had a toddler in the "window" the author deems appropriate and I was reading this book, so I was obviously doing everything right from the start. The problem is the author sets you up for success if you follow the rules, but when you fail at part of the process you a) feel like you've royally messed up and b) don't get a lot of in depth information on how to get back on track. This is a very emotional process on its own, but I feel like the author's tone does not help ease any of the anxieties that come with potty training.I cannot speak for the nighttime process yet (although from the sounds of it, I think we'll just wing it and ignore the author's advice), but the day-to-day potty training process can and does work. While we had lots of issues crop up, my daughter eventually "got it" after 1 full week of training. The things I liked about this book were the clear and concise plan that was laid out. I also really appreciated the author's stance on not giving up and saying your child isn't ready when things get hard. Your child is not going to magically potty train themselves. It is going to be a frustrating process, but they WILL get it. Going back and forth between diapers and the potty is confusing and not at all helpful. During our process, I had many people tell me that maybe my daughter just wasn't ready and I should try again later. This book helped me combat that idea. First, I was NOT interested in re-living the potty training process over again (did I mention it's HARD?). Second, my child displayed all the signs of readiness before we started and I KNEW she was capable of learning something new. The book helped me put my foot down and stick with it, even when it was miserable. I also really liked the idea of not giving rewards for going potty. My daughter responded wonderfully to praise and we invented our own little celebration song because of it. Even now that she goes regularly she gets very excited about it and is SO proud of herself. I love that she did not need a sticker or a piece of candy to know she was doing a good job.The things I did not like about this book were the set age window for which to potty train. My 27 month old showed all the signs of readiness, but the author suggests she would have been just as ready as early as 18 month old. My daughter communicates well for her age, but even with that I can't imagine explaining and doing this all at 18 months old. And with the age window ending at 2.5 years, I felt like the odds were stacked against us with every minute that passed and she was not potty trained. Never mind the fact she makes it sound like, if your child isn't getting it, it is 100% your fault. The chapter on daycare is particularly depressing and set me up to believe my daughter's school was going to be difficult to work with. They were not. In fact, they were our biggest cheerleaders during the process and continue to champion my child (as they should.) To suggest to someone that, if their daycare does not comply with all the rules in this book, you should move your child to another daycare is insanity. Your kid is having trouble potty training, so why not uproot their entire day-to-day life and see how that goes? Horrible advice. Basically, the general tone of this book creates so much anxiety that I can see why so many parents are turned off by it.There were many troubleshooting suggestions that were simply the cliff's notes explanations of how to deal with issues. Some of them state the obvious but give you no real solution. For instance:-Prompt, but don't OVER prompt your child.-Your child does not get a choice about sitting on the potty, but don't turn sitting on the potty into a punishment.-If your child is misbehaving during the potty training process, it is okay to discipline them as you normally would, but don't ever punish them in regards to the potty.Also, the author mentions a Facebook group to commiserate with experts and fellow parents. There is not one; just a page for the book that posts some teaser blog posts and directs you to the book itself. I suspect if you really want that kind of support, you'll need to pay their consultants to help you.All and all, this book has some great tactics and can really help you potty train your child. Just be prepared to roll your eyes a lot at the author's tone and her anecdotes about all the amazing things she does for her own child (controlled diet, progressive schooling, etc.) that don't necessarily fit into most people's reality. If she would just stick to the facts, this would be a lot shorter book and I suspect more people would follow through with its teachings.

I had read a few other guides to potty training before this but had been told this was the best. Unfortunately, reading it stressed me out. I will probably use some of the suggestions (learning to notice subtle cues, telling not asking when it's time to go to the bathroom), but the overall tone felt judgmental and smug. My son is 34 months which is the "danger zone," as she says, because I've already missed the window for training him easily. Huh? What a cruel generalization! Also, based on my son's previous behavior she would classify him as a "kid from hell." Again, not helpful. I was just starting to think "holy crap, we have more dysfunction in our family than I realized!" when I decided to look at the author's qualifications. I can't tell what they are either from the book, from her blog, Google, whatever. She has been a social worker at some point, so what. She's devised a method that is helpful for many parents, so what. I think if she was a real professional counseling families according to real ethical/professional standards, she would know not to talk down to parents.

This is Ted's wife writing this just FYI. So here goes:Yes. Just Yes. This book's methods were extremely successful for us with our almost 2 1/2 year old son. I read it over the course of 2 weeks, but I didn't just read it. I took notes, highlighted and made myself practice lists and reminders to put on my fridge on the day we started (I know). It really gives you useable, easy to understand advice to teach your child. I think to be successful with it, as Jamie states several times, you need to commit and have confidence that your child can do this. We ran into the dreaded fear of pooping on the potty on the second day. I looked for guidance and found it on Jamie's website and via email. She has a great series of You Tube videos as well. Her suggestions on the videos and in the book helped us to get over the poop hump and I am happy to say that on day 8 of consistent, committed and calm potty training, we did it! I definitely think that this method could be tricky for parents who don't have the ability to be home for 4 or more days with their child, but if it is at all possible to take an extra day off of work, it is totally worth it to give it a go! Also, wine. The End.

The book is well presented, and helped fill in knowledge gaps left after rushing to get out my first EF app. On a deeper level though, I have to comment that it is frustrating to have the framework experts choose to break up the framework topics into a number of separate and out-of-phase books. e.g. here is a book covering just one class? Could there be afew more chapters covering the best practices in codefirst, etc? Is this the ORM of the Microsoft powerhouse, or of two men in a garage?

A technical book without an index! Really?!? The book is otherwise a good resource. But seriously, no index?!?

I purchased the first EF book based on EF4 and it was good but more confusing when trying to implement EF5 with DbContext. This book was helpful however it would help to have a reference in the back of the book to look up different topics. As far as I can tell it is the only book out there on EF5 and DbContext. I am currently working with EF5 on a project. After I completely implement the website using EF5 I will make a decision if I will ever use another ORM or not. I may go back to rolling my own SQL Stored Procedures, DAL, and BLL as I have done many times in the past which gives me more control and I fully understand the full data mapping. The only benefit to any ORM is time it should save to develop a project. Stored Procedures is the foundation anyway of any ORM plus it protects from injection. I have used other concepts from MS for data access and they were not bad but difficult to work with some times. I was trying to break up my project into layers and found it difficult with EF5 so I started over and put things into one project until I fully understand how to work with it better. I intend to breakup the project into layers later if I discover the need for scale-ability. Trying to implement repository pattern and unit of work is confusing since I have not tried those concepts in the past and also since EF is suppose to be doing that behind the scenes; it seems kind of redundant to implement some type of patterns if EF is already implementing a pattern. I like to use a DAL and a BLL. So EF should take the place of the DAL. I do like the concept of generating from the database plus update from the database. I am not sure any ORM will meet anyone's plug and play needs. The book is written to walk one through the concepts step by step but I tend to jump around technical books looking for instant answers to immediate problems. Mainly because I don't have the time to walk through a text book page by page I have projects to complete. I am not a full time developer so I look for quick answers to problems as I go along. I wish this book would give a fully layered example of using a DAL and BLL to also include a N-tier example with DAL and BLL. I rated this book 4 stars as it did give me some answers but it is the only book out there for EF5 using DbContext. I am using VS 2012 purposely for running EF5 and it is buggy. I spent many days with it crashing on me before I got it stable. I am in with VS 2012 for the long haul as it should get better.

This book is well written and has excellent detail. The main issue is that much of the detail of the book relies on owning or having read the previous book programming_entity_framework_2nd_edition. Together they give very good insight into DbContext and Entity Framework. I'm not sure how much can be taken away from this text without programming_entity_framework_2nd_edition so that is the only reason for not giving a 5 star rating.

Would highly recommend this as a starting point to EF. Will give you what you need to know to get started and should be a good reference through intermediate EF programming.

This is a really nice book, clear and full of details about Entity Framework and DbContext. It helps you to understand many concepts of EF's design and how to apply it in your code.For who are using DbContext, due the fact it is easy to start to use, but still not have a great understanding about how it works under the hood, I think this book can be a good start.

An excellent book. Delivered clean and new.
