I am very pleased with this book and this format of books. Robson has written others, including one on the Peugeot 205 T16, which I also have. This isn't for the casual reader but the person who really enjoys rallying and reading about the great cars in this motor sport. This has just the right amount of text, ample photos that complement the text and is not so voluminous as to be a drag to read. Incidentally, I also use these books as reference books to build models of these same cars.

This an amazing book. I love the Impreza. This book covers everything about Subaru World Rally car!!! It starts in 1992 and explains in great detail about the development of this astonishing car!! The book is beautifully written. If you love Subaru, like me, you need it!! It was delivered very quickly and in perfect shape!!

I recommend this book to anyone obsessed/fascinated with rallying who wants to absorb as much information as possible about one the sport's greatest cars. The Lancia Stratos was the first purpose-built rally car, a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, fiberglass-bodied, Ferrari V6-powered monster that drew huge crowds wherever it raced.The author of this book, Graham Robson, is one of the foremost authorities on the World Rally Championship, and he provides plenty of information about the Stratos' genesis, development, specifications, and competition history. Loaded with photos and statistics, this book is a must for all Stratos fans.I also highly recommend the other books in Veloce's Rally Giants series, including Austin-Healey 100-6 and 3000; Ford Escort Mk I, and Subaru Impreza, all written by Robson, all of the same quality and format.

First off, I loved this book and recommend it highly. It is a complete page-turner. Loved the characters. Loved the setting. Loved the story.But I do have a confession to make. I'm that guy who had no idea that Bonaire, or Saba, or most of the islands even referenced in this book, existed. I mean, I know where Venezuela is, but alas, geography was never my strong suit. And as far as scuba diving is concerned, I did it once in Hawaii, but that was a long time ago and I didn't see a whole lot.But NOW?! Sign me up for a scuba vacation to the Caribbean baby! The descriptions were so vivid and inviting I felt like I was there! Not that the descriptions themselves are important, but it does illustrate how fully immersed you become in the author's world. And the character's are likewise fully brought to life. I loved the characters, especially Boone. (In my next life I'm going to be him: just a dude who finds something he loves to do - and does it.) I thought the villains particularly believable, which is important in a story like this. And Ana Munoz is the gift that keeps on giving... you should read this book if only to meet her, she is worth the price of admission, believe me. (And she is, alas, not even a main character.)I don't want to give anything away but I will tell you I found the twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing. I'm the guy who usually sees stuff coming a mile away, but I am happy to say that I was genuinely surprised, and can honestly tell youI did not see where it was going - in the most satisfactory way. Well done sir.I guess the best compliment I can give this book is that I finished it in an afternoon. I picked it up and couldn't put it down.Oh, and can I just make one request? Hurry up with the sequel - and Ana Munoz needs her own series. Please.

Deep Shadow by Nick Sullivan is a sexy, espionage filled romp through the waters of the Caribbean and the islands upon it. Like the fishing vessels that become the travel of our heroes, this book will hook you and keep you hooked throughout. I was immediately drawn into the Clancy-esque storyline, but was equally turned on by the romance at the center. Props to this writer for giving us both a male and female heroine, and a romance that works within and amplifies the storyline. A delicious, sexy, action packed maritime adventure that will keep you turning the pages well into the night! Clear the writer knows this territory well, and loves it-- you will find yourself infused with the passion of his writing. I only wish I had been on the beach reading it, but he transported me there in spirit! **I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

While I am not a reviewer of any note, I am an avid reader of all things ‘adventure’. As such, just let me state that Mr. Sullivan’s novel fulfilled what I consider elemental in any good story: Plot construction, character development and pace. I was hooked from the outset and can only anticipate his next adventure in paradise. As an old sailor and diver who knows a bit about the Caribbean, I can only say to Wayne Stinnett, “thanks for the introduction”. It’s nice to have a “new friend”.

A fellow Rotarian Emailed me while I’m here on Bonaire to let me know about this book. We own a place on the Island and have for about eight years,and actually have been coming here for about 20 years. I really enjoyed reading about the places I’ve been going to for years and love the fact that it’s recently written. If you love Bonaire you’re gonna love this book! I will be sharing this with my many friends that call Bonaire their permanent home!

What a great read this first book in the series is -- I couldn't put the book down. The detail provided in describing the locale -- Bonaire and Venezuela -- and the antics of Boone (hero), Emily (heroine) and the baddies, not to mention the engaging storyline make this a must-read book. I look forward to the next in the series. I am glad Michael Reisig recommended this book.

I can't stand to fly without a decent book to read during the long boring airport waits and flights. So, I pulled this one down to the Kindle as insurance from boredom on my way to Statia and Saba for Sea & Learn and some great diving. I had no idea "Deep Shadow" would also take me to these beautiful places. Being a frequent visitor to these islands myself, I really enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the people and places I know well. In fact, I would not be surprised to find out I have meet Nick Sullivan at some point in my travels. I probably dived with him! Anyway, very well written book, great beach read, and I loved the sprinkling of historical and geographic facts. I will be pulling down the second book in the series now!

This is a terrific adventure that starts strong, and keeps a brisk pace throughout. The author's attention to detail is very strong in terms of location and scuba diving, yet not too technical to bog it down. This is a great set-up for a series featuring Boone, and Sullivan has the skills to keep it chugging along.This is the second book by Nick Sullivan that I've read, and while I was a fan of his goofy Zombie Bigfoot, this new novel shows a big evolution in style. Much more mature, with higher, real-world stakes...yet still room for fun. Recommended.

Just finished Deep Shadow an am waiting for my heart rate to simmer down. What an adventure! If you like exhilarating adventure with a pinch of humor you will love this book. Oh I hope Nick is a prolific writer.

I actually first bought and read this book eight years ago and really liked it. I thought it was very technical, but not too technical for a lay audience and did a good job of explaining the "superpowers" a cell must acquire to become cancerous. Then I lent it to one of I my high school biology students who developed an interest in cancer reasearch after I presented a unit on cancer. She also enjoyed the book, though admitted it was a hard read fo her. However, she went on to major in molecular biology at UCLA and did undergrad reasearch on cancer and is now pursuing a PhD in immunology at UCSF and I think this book helped motivate all that. I bought a second copy of this book recently for my dad, who was diagnosed with cancer and trying to learn more about it. He said the book was too difficult for him to follow so maybe best for a lay audience with a solid biology foundation as a good primer for understand cancer. My dad did take biology in college but that was 50 years ago! The field has advanced greatly since then while his memory has not. But for anyone with a good science foundation, this book is manageable and extremely interesting.

I just have finished the book which I bought 3 years ago but then did not read it as the book is hard for me to handle with only a left hand. But after my wife 4 weeks ago were stated having cancer I read it in the past week.Among other reasons I also bought the book because I in many privies read books had seen references to Robert A. Weinberg.The book is good in telling the history concerning solving most of the problems about how the cells groves and increases, and especially why cancer don't stop living, having no finishing age. It's a clear and detailed writing, even though it was a little bit heavy for me as many years have passed since I was in school concerning biology. And I can se that much new knowing has come since then back in the 1960es. But as we in the book go through what's going on in the cells I must say that it's much like thinking concerning programming software for the Pc.And on side 115 is mentioned an interested discovery in 1972 by Jams Watson, who I only remember for the discovery of DNA in 1953.Weinberg finish the book by writing that in the future the successors will look back on these discoveries in the last quarter of the twentieth century as a historical curiosity, but that's only the same which again and again has happened concerning other researches in science. That's nearly always first going to one side and then to the other, and disbelieving what researchers discover to early the others to believe.

This book is best read by those who remember some of their basic biology but this is not strictly required to benefit from the book. The author uses engaging prose to keep the subject interesting and is able to provide simplified, yet compelling, explanations of a complex topic. Highly recommended for anyone who want some insight into cancer and cell biology,

I picked up this book browsing around on my Kindle. Boy what a book! This is one of the most interesting books that I've read. The writing style is active and immediate, fast paced, even exciting as the next link in the chain is discovered. Starting from back in the 1900s Weinberg goes up through the history of conjectures to validated genetic science exploring how the various cancers genetic underpinnings advance the disease. An excellent review is written by Rhoads check this one out first. This book is copyright 1998 so is probably "dated" however Weinberg has another book on "the biology of Cancer" dated 2006 which is probably really good too although I haven't read it but it is $100. Being enthused by Weinberg's writing about this subject I've just downloaded "The Emperor of All Maladies" Copyright 2010 on my Kindle to perhaps learn a little more about this fascinating but tragic subject.A strong message in the book is avoidance is better than cure so DON'T SMOKE!!!! If you do, GIVE IT UP QUICKLY!!!

A close relative of mine is a cancer survivor, and the shadow of this horrific disease has become a new member in our family. Weinberg's book is a quick and very well written primer for the layman on cancer and the history of oncological research. Not only does it contain up to date information about the latest genetic discoveries in the field, but it also presents them in a didatic and lighthearted style only an insider could offer. Reading this book, I felt like having a glimpse of the kind of books that will be written abou cancer in (hopefully) 20 years: books in which all the mechanisms leading to tumor formation will be laid bare for the student, and effective therapies will be available for all kinds of cancer, with minor burden of side effects. Books in which all the suffering caused by cancer nowadays will be as part of medical history as polio is. I felt enpowered by this book and actually enjoyed reading it (the account of how a virus can cause cancer by stealing proto oncogenes from normal cells is fascinating). The only reason I have not given 5 stars is some difficulty in the last chapters due to the complicated naming conventions of genes, but I guess this is a fault of the unfinished status of genetic oncology and my ignorance. If cancer or the history of medical research in general interests you, I strongly recommend this book.

This is a very interesting book about the bio mechanics of cancerous tumorsand possible ways of fighting them, written in a very playful and interesting language.I recommend it to anyone who wishes to understand why do humans develop cancer?Why does it seam to be more prominent these days than in the past, what exactlyhappens in the cell level when it decides to run amok? and finally what should one doto limit the risk of getting cancer.On the down side, I think the book is a bit outdated and can use a new addition.In some places it predicts scientific events which already happened. I also feel thatthere are a bit too many Genes names for the casual reader to stomach.

Have been waiting for this book for a long time. I took a look through and was impressed. The exercises here are common enough, but what the author brings to the table is a different view. If your expecting a scientific paper this also isn't your book. The author has something like 130 citations from various scientific studies, but does a great job at making the scientific jargon understandable in a common persons type of speech. He tackles things like TUT-Time Under Tension and other methods that are usually discussed in a lot of books, but in a way that isn't overly complicated. He does this throughout the book taking ideas and concepts you certainly find in other books on the subject of bodyweight training, but without over complicating it and making it simple to both understand and apply. The overall layout of the workouts is like the rest of the book filled with explanation that has its roots in science, but is explained so that the common person can understand and apply it. The author does make some controversial claims involving high rep calisthenics, but does so in a way that his viewpoint is understandable and backs it up as well. Why is this a good thing? Most bodyweight books and courses stress utilizing lower reps and controlling the body for a strength based focus and if they do focus on muscle building its done with many variations going from harder to easier/pyramid style etc. The author makes good use of Ladders as an exercise system as well. Essentially this is one of the few books I've run across that looks at the higher rep area of calisthenics which a lot of books made for civilians don't usually do so for me personally it was refreshing. The author is also careful to point out the weakness's of higher rep training, but how to work around it etc. He is very thorough with presenting plenty of options and giving his rationale for it, but again in a way that isn't overly complicated in short what you have is a pretty darn solid book. If I were a beginner and had to recommend three books I'd say this book would be on that list. Every person has to make their own choices of course, but I personally found the text to be different, refreshing, and filled with many good insights and for relatively cheap as well. Its quite literally a gold mind of information that otherwise you might have to look around for. If I had had this book when I first started training it would have helped me a great deal.

There are a lot of calisthenics books out there and almost all of them fall into one of two categories, books that are too basic and dont get you anywhere and books with exercises so advanced you'll spend months or years trying to learn them. This book is neither. It was nice reading a book about an approach to building muscle and losing fat with realistic workouts and exercises.

The author breaks down several different ways to progress in Calisthenics. From gaining muscle to losing fat and increasing your rep count, all bases are covered for all practitioners no matter your skill level.

This is the kind of Cook Book that does not just sit on a shelf. I consistently pull this one down and create some really powerful dishes. It is worth the price just for the sauces and oils... if you grill much, then its a Win / Win.

Just cooked my first recipe out of the book for NYE dinner, pork tenderloin with bourbon-ancho sauce (pg. 166), amazing and tasted just like I had at the restaurant. Only thing I noticed was that the cooking times were a bit off, but that could be because the recipes were developed on a commercial stove not a home one. Not a big deal, just going to add a little time cushion in the future knowing it might take longer. Also, with it being the dead of winter I didn't have the ventilation I necessarily needed to sear with that chili rub. LOL! In the future I will use less or cook it outside so my guests do feel like they have been pepper sprayed, but it was well worth the few min. of suffering. :-) the pork has a really nice balance tons of flavor but not to hot, even my friend that thinks black pepper is sometimes hot loved it!

I love Bobby Flay and his Mesa Grill restaurant in Vegas. This cookbook has great recipes and is easy to follow. It truly brings the Southwest flavors and I was impressed with some of the simplicity of recipes that have such great flavors.

Fantastic book for making an amazing restaurant's dishes at home. Recipes are clear, not too complicated, and I usually only need one or two things different from the store than what I usually buy or have on hand. I learned a lot about chilies. My family is seriously impressed every time I use this cookbook.

Great cookbook for a foodie. Most recipes are multi step. Not much 30 minute meals, lol.

A perfect choice for me. I like his style of cooking and these recipes are a solid fit for me. Easy to follow recipes,too. I just hope I can do them justice. "Outdoor/Backyard Grillin'" is next !!!

My wife and I Love Bobby Flay's recipes!Nearly everything we've tried, we've loved.My only reservation is that there are a lot of ingredients and the recipes take time ... something we need to make the occasion for on weekends. He also has some hard to find ingredients ... which is fine by us, since our spice rack is now much more stocked.His blending of sweet with just the right amount of heat is just great.One note on the book construction is that we had to return the book for a replacement 3 times to finally get one that didn't crack the attachment of the binding, usually toward the front section of the book. When simply leaving the book open while cooking it would crack the binding inside the book and would loosen the pages where they looked like they would fall out over time. Amazon was great and said they'd hold future sales of the book until it was resolved and told us to wait a few months or so to order it again if we wanted to. Of course we did want another copy, so we ordered our replacement ~10 months later and the book was of a much better quality.All in all, we look forward to buying more Bobby Flay books, he truly is a great chef and recipes keep our taste buds very happy.

I watched Bobby Flay's biography on television and his cooking seemed so interesting I thought I would purchase one of his books and and give it a try.First, the recipes are easy to follow - though several steps are required during preparation the end result is well worth the effort. The results are fantastic. Before viewing his biography my mind set was that most of the food would be too spicy. Not so. The recipes include some heat but it seems the heat is nicely complimented with sweet and citrus flavors. The combination is indescribable. The prickly pear margarita is especially delicious and so are the salads.If you are looking to create unforgettable dishes with lots of fresh flavor this is the book to use.

I really enjoyed reading this book about a Queen that so few people know about. She lived a fascinating life but she died in disgrace and was promptly forgotten about by history. This is a woman who defied the standards of her day and rose to great power. She managed to sway Popes and Kings to her side and survived numerous attempts at her crown. Towards the end, it was so sad to see how it was all taken from her by a family member she had provided for and cared for throughout his life. Even though you knew it wasn't possible, you kept hoping Joanna would find yet another way to survive and overcome. Ms. Goldstone did a wonderful job of telling a warts and all story all the while still keeping the reader sympathetic to Joanna. I now wish there were more books about Queen Joanna but, as far as I can tell, this is it for biographies about Queen Joanna that have been written in my lifetime. I recommend picking up this book and learning about a fascinating Queen.

Although I read quite a bit of history, I was not very familiar with the life of Joanna of Naples. I found the book well researched and very informative as well as very fascinating to read - not at all "heavy". It not only gave me a good overview of the life and times of this not very well known queen but also of the "Hungarian connection" - I had not realised that at the time the Hungarian royal family was descended from one of Joanna's relatives. I continue to be amazed at the papal courts and how anyone could take the popes and the church hierarchy seriously in view of their scheming, venality, etc. etc. Poor Joanna dependent on such institutions.

This is a very "fat" book full of details and many historical personages. It starts with a bang - a powerful young queen appearing before the Pope to defend herself of charges that she arranged her husband's death. But that is something of a teaser, and it quickly reverts to giving important by dry backstory about Joanna's grandfather and the various claims to the throne.There was so much going on - rival Popes, four husbands, intriguing heirs... but I found it a bit hard to follow though I love historical biographies in general. The depth of research is evident, but the writing style doesn't enchant.

I must admit when I first saw this, I assumed it was about the only Joanna I was familiar with: Joanna of Castile or Joanna the Mad. When I looked at it more closely, I realized it wasn't about her and dismissed it. But then when it popped up on sale I thought why shouldn't I let myself be introduced to a historical figure I've never heard of?And I'm glad I did! Joanna's life was both tragic and impressive. My main complaint about the other book I'd read by Goldstone was that there wasn't much known about the main historical figures and so with at least two of them, their lives didn't seem all that eventful. But that was not a problem this time; Joanna's life was extremely eventful.It's a highly political book that can be hard to follow if you're not familiar with the players involved, which I wasn't. But it's well worth the effort to learn about some of the remarkable and fascinating events that went on in and around the life of this Queen of Naples. For anyone, let alone a woman in medieval times, to navigate this political minefield must have taken great strength and intelligence. Goldstone highlighted a much overlooked, tragic but admirable historical figure who no doubt deserves much more mainstream appreciation than she's received. The writing style was a little dry at times and as ever, I struggled to remain interested in the military bits, but overall, I really enjoyed learning about this amazing woman and the people around her.

The more biographies I read of the mostly miserable lives of royal women in the Middle Ages, the more it is apparent that it was no blessing being born anywhere near a throne in those times. Essentially all of these women - queens included - were viewed as mute integers only in the marriage equations and international power struggles. This was particularly true for this most unfortunate Queen of Naples, Joanna I, who suffered mightily from a series of nightmarish marriages, including one to a husband who beat her regularly and one to a man who was widely viewed as insane even in his own time. With the sole exception of her last consort, all of the men in her life - including the serial Popes - treated her with ruthless disregard - if not physical brutality- in their personal quests for power. It seems every third paragraph begins, "At this time, Joanna was beset..." which, based on this recounting of events, was completely true as she encountered nothing but one crisis after another during her long rule. The fact that she is the saddest queen you probably never heard of, and ruled a considerable swath of territory for a very long time, makes it surprising that she is so little known to history. Perhaps her ignominious end has something to do with how little her name has endured unlike other more well known female sovereigns. In any case, Goldstone does a very creditable job here of telling Joanna's woeful story in a most readable fashion. I was appalled to read in the end notes that a good bit of original source material from this period was destroyed by the Nazis and hence is no longer available. The author here has relied in part on earlier biographers who had access to these primary sources before they were regrettably destroyed. The book moves along in a brisk narrative style and, although thoroughly annotated at the back, the text itself is not interrupted with citations and footnotes which can often be distracting. An excellent discussion of a turbulent time in pre-Renaissance Europe when castles were still being beseiged and thrones were won by intrigue and strength of arms. 4.5 stars
